I spent the morning planning activities and catching up on my hour logs and organizing my materials for my check-in on Wednesday. I planned activities more in detail for this week and for next week as well.
I took the train to Meta and then walked directly to the beach because they had planned a beach day. It was nice to get in the water and hangout with the kids outside of the house. It is more difficult to be demanding and sort conflict out for them when they do not understand me. I have gotten pretty good at asking “what’s wrong?” in italian and other things like that. They trust me enough to tell me, but it is just that sometimes it is too complex for them to say in english and for me to understand in Italian.
We took the road home as Francesco was pushing Mario in a stroller and Georgia was getting her hands sticky with a lollipop. It was so hot and everyone was sandy, but I was just happy to be there. Sometimes I am in such awe that they allow me to be a part of their lives for a moment.
When we got home I assisted Georgia with showering and the worst part was taking her hair out. Someone had put her hair in about 7 different mini ponytails at the front of her face and it was a tragedy to take out. I know that was painful, but she let me do it. I helped her shower, fought her to get dressed, and gave her my phone to dry her hair. It was an unspoken relationship. I didn’t have to say a word. I just held up my phone and she immediately sat down.
There are so many unspoken, nonverbal cues that I have learned being here and it makes interacting with the kids so much easier.
